Question
Download Solution PDFThe average age of a man and his son is 45 years. The ratio of their age is 2 ∶ 1, respectively. What is the age of the man and his son?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFLet's assume the age of the man as x, and the age of his son as y.
As the average age of a man and his son is 45 years,
i.e., (x+y)/2 = 45
⇒ x+y = 90-----(1)
and the ratio of their age is 2:1, respectively
i.e., x/y = 2/1 -----(2)
From equation (2), we get:
x = 2y
Substituting x = 2y in equation (1), we get:
2y + y = 90
⇒ 3y = 90
⇒ y = 30
Substituting y = 30 in x = 2y, we get:
x = 2 * 30 = 60
Therefore, the man is 60 years old and his son is 30 years old.
