Roller bearings
Roller contact bearings are the bearings that use spherical balls, or some other type of roller between the stationary and the moving elements. These bearings are also called antifriction bearing.
Roller contact bearings are classified into four types:
- Cylindrical Roller Bearing
- Taper Roller Bearing
- Spherical Roller Bearing
- Needle Roller Bearing
Advantages of roller contact bearing:
- Low starting and running friction except running at very high speeds.
- Ease of lubrication
- Shaft alignment is more accurate than in the sliding bearing
- It can carry both radial as well as thrust loads
- Wide versatility with respect to mountings
