J.P. Guilford, an American psychologist, has proposed the concept of 'convergent thinking' and 'divergent thinking' which are stated below:

  • Convergent thinking: It refers to an ability which relates to followup logical steps to arrive at one correct solution. It doesn't require creativity, hence, is equivalent to intelligence.
  • Divergent thinking: It refers to a way of solving problems by more than one approach. It is a creative process which includes out of the box thinking. Thus, it is equivalent to creativity.

Hence, we conclude that according to Guliford the term ‘convergent thinking’ as equivalent to  Intelligence
