Concept:

According to IS 800: 2007(Clause 10.5.2.3), the minimum size of the weld is given below table:

The thickness of thicker member (mm)	Minimum size (mm)
t ≤ 10	3
10 < t ≤ 20	5
20 < t ≤ 32	6
32 < t ≤ 50	8

So the Minimum size of the weld if the plate thickness is less than 10mm will be 3 mm.
