Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Option 2 : Red
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFThe correct answer is Red.
Explanation:
Dispersion of light:
- The white light is formed by seven visible colours called VIBGYOR. (Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red).
- Dispersion of light is the phenomenon of splitting of a beam of white light into its constituent colours when passing through a prism.
- The band of seven colours so obtained is called the (visible) spectrum.
- Dispersion of white light occurs because the colours of white light travel at different speeds through the glass prism.
- All colours have different wavelengths.
- Light bends when its travels from one transparent medium to another. So, it bends when it travels from air to the prism.
- The light with the least wavelength bends the most. Red bends the least as it has a maximum wavelength and violet bends the most.
- The white light is formed by seven visible colours called VIBGYOR. Among these, the light bent the most after Violet is Indigo following the sequence VIBGYOR.
So, the light which will bend most is Violet. and least is Red.
