A tacheometer was set up at station P and observations were taken on a staff held at Q, the vertical circle reading being zero. The readings were 1.980 m, 1.660 m and 1.340 m. Find the distance P Q. The instrument's multiplying and additive constants were 100 and 0.5, respectively.

Concept:

The horizontal distance between the axis and the staff is

D = ks + c

Where,

k = \(f\over i\) = Multiplying constant

c = f + d = Additive constant

f = focal length of objectives
F1 Vinanti Engineering 23.08.23 D18

Calculation:

Given
F1 Vinanti Engineering 23.08.23 D19

k = 100

c = 0.5

s = 1.980 - 1.340 = 0.64

D = ks + c

D = 100 × 0.64 + 0.5

D = 64 + 0.5

D = 64.5 m

Thus the distance between P and Q is 64.5 m. Hence option (2) is correct.
