Download Solution PDFIn a glass, milk and water are mixed in the ratio of 3 : 5 and in another glass they are mixed in the ratio of 6 : 1. In what ratio should the contents of the two glasses be mixed together so that the new mixture contains milk and water in the ratio of 1 : 1?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Glass 1: Milk:Water = 3:5
Glass 2: Milk:Water = 6:1
New mixture: Milk:Water = 1:1
Formula used:
Using the rule of alligation:
Milk in Glass 1 = 3/8
Milk in Glass 2 = 6/7
Milk in the new mixture = 1/2
Calculation:
⇒ Difference between Glass 2 and new mixture = 6/7 - 1/2 = 5/14
⇒ Difference between Glass 1 and new mixture = 1/2 - 3/8 = 1/8
⇒ Required ratio = (5/14) : (1/8)
⇒ Required ratio = 20:7
∴ The contents of the two glasses should be mixed in the ratio of 20:7.
