The back surface of a plate is heated at the rate of 50 W/m2 and the front surface is cooled by airflow at 30°C. It is given that the heat transfer coefficient between the air and the plate surface is 50 W/m2–K. Considering steady-state heat transfer, what is the temperature (in °C) of the front surface of the plate.

Concept:-

According to Newton's law of cooling

Q = hA∆T

Calculation:

Given:

Q/A = 50 W/m2, h = 50 W/m2k, Tb = 30°C

Q/A = hΔT

Q/A = h × ( TF – Tb )

50 = 50 × (TF - 30)

TF = 31°C
