Question
Download Solution PDFIf the length of a rectangular field is increased by 20% and the breadth is reduced by 20%, the area of the rectangle will be 192 m². What is the area of the original rectangle?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Length increased by 20%
Breadth reduced by 20%
New area = 192 m²
Formula used:
Area of rectangle = Length × Breadth
Calculation:
Let the original length be 'l' and breadth be 'b'.
Original area = l × b
New length = l + 20% of l = l + 0.2l = 1.2l
New breadth = b - 20% of b = b - 0.2b = 0.8b
New area = (1.2l) × (0.8b) = 192
0.96lb = 192
lb = 192 / 0.96
lb = 200
∴ The area of the original rectangle is 200 m².
