Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Sum of the present ages of a father and his son = 60 years.
Six years ago, the father's age was five times the age of his son.
Calculations:
Let the present age of the father be 'F' years and the present age of the son be 'S' years.
From the first statement:
F + S = 60 --- (1)
Six years ago, the father's age was (F - 6) years and the son's age was (S - 6) years.
From the second statement:
F - 6 = 5(S - 6)
F - 6 = 5S - 30
F = 5S - 24 --- (2)
Substitute the value of F from equation (2) into equation (1):
(5S - 24) + S = 60
6S - 24 = 60
6S = 60 + 24
6S = 84
S = 84 / 6
S = 14
So, the present age of the son is 14 years.
Son's age after 6 years = 14 + 6 = 20 years
∴ After six years, the son's age will be 20 years.
