Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven
Initial distance = 420 m
Policeman's speed = 25 km/h
Thief's speed = 20 km/h
Time = 3 min
Concept:
Relative speed and distance = speed × time
Solution:
⇒ Convert speeds from km/h to m/min: Policeman's speed = 25 × 1000/60 = 416.67 m/min, Thief's speed = 20 × 1000/60 = 333.33 m/min
⇒ Relative speed = 416.67 m/min - 333.33 m/min = 83.33 m/min
⇒ Distance covered in 3 min = 83.33 m/min × 3 min = 250 m
⇒ Remaining distance = 420 m - 250 m = 170 m
Therefore, the distance between them after three minutes is 170 m.
