From point H, at 6 : 30 pm, a train starts moving towards point K at the speed of 90 km/hr. Another train starts moving from point K at 7 : 30 p.m. towards point H at the speed of 72 km/hr. Both the train meet at 11 : 30 p.m. at point J. What is the ratio of the distance HJ and KJ?

Given:

Speed of train A is 90 km/h moving from H to K at 6:30 pm

Speed of train B is 72 km/h moving from K to H at 7:30 pm

Both train meet at 11:30 pm

Formula used:

Distance = Speed × Time

Calculations:

Total time travel by train A is from 6:30 pm to 11:30 pm

⇒ Total time = 5 h

⇒ Distance travel by Train A = Speed × Time = 90 × 5 = 450 km

Total time travel by train B is from 7:30 pm to 11:30 pm

⇒ Total time = 4 h

⇒ Distance travel by Train B = Speed × Time = 72 × 4 = 288 km

Ratio of Distance travel by train A and train B

⇒ Train A : Train B = 450 : 288 = 25 : 16

⇒ Hence, The ratio of distance traveled by train A and train B is 25 : 16
