Divisibility Rules for 11:
If the difference of the sum of alternative digits of a number is divisible by 11, then that number is divisible by 11 completely.
Calculation:
13y7 is divisible by 11,
So, 13y7 = 1 + y = 3 + 7
⇒ y = 10 - 1 = 9
The number is 1397.
According to the question,
4x3 + 984 = 1397
⇒ 4x3 = 1397 - 984
⇒ 4x3 = 413
⇒ x = 1
Now, (x + y) = 1 + 9 = 10
∴ (x + y) = 10
