Traditional method:

Employees in HR = 8% of 800 = 64

⇒ Number of males in HR = 3/8 × 64 = 24

Employees in IT = 15% of 800 = 120

⇒ Number of males in IT = 2/5 × 120 = 48

Employees in Accounts = 25% of 800 = 200

⇒ Number of males in Accounts = 3/10 × 200 = 60

Employees in Marketing = 22% of 800 = 176

⇒ Number of males in Marketing = 7/11 × 176 = 112

Employees in Production = 30% of 800 = 240

⇒ Number of males in Production = 5/8 × 240 = 150

∴ Total number of males = 24 + 48 + 60 + 112 + 150 = 394

Alternate Method

The percentage of male employees = 8 × 3/8 + 15 × 2/5 + 25 × 3/10 + 22 × 7/11 + 30 × 5/8

= 3 + 6 + 7.5 + 14 + 18.75

= 49.25%

  • Total no. of males

= 49.25% of 800

= (800 × 49.25)/100

394
