Question
Download Solution PDFTwo stations R and S are 400 km apart from each other. A train leaves from R to S and simultaneously another train leaves from S to R. Both trains meet after 10 hours. If the speed of the first train is 4 km/hr more than the second train, then what is the speed of the slower train?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
The distance between R and S = 400 km
Difference of their speed = 4 km/h
Formula used:
Distance = relative speed × time
Calculation:
Let the speed of the train A = S1
Let the speed of the train B = S2
According to the question:
Relative speed × time = distance
⇒ (S1 + S2) × 10 = 400
⇒ (S1 + S2) = 40 --------- (1)
and
⇒ (S1 - S2) = 4 --------- (2)
By solving the equation (1) and (2)
S2 = (40 - 4)/2 = 36/2 = 18 km/h
∴ The correct answer is 18 km/h.
