Question
Download Solution PDFTwo trains of length 130 m and 120 m are running on parallel lines in the same direction at a speed of 40 km/h and 50 km/h, respectively. In how much time will they pass each other?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:-
Speed of the first train (T1) = 40 km/h
Speed of the second train (T2) = 50 km/h
Concept used:-
When two objects move in the same direction, their
relative speed is the difference between their individual speeds.
When two trains pass each other,
the distance they cover equals the sum of their lengths
Calculation:-
Relative speed = Speed of T2 - Speed of T1
Relative speed = 50 km/h - 40 km/h = 10 km/h
Convert the relative speed from km/h to m/s:
Relative speed = 10 km/h × (1000 m / 1 km) × (1 h / 3600 s) = 100/36 m/s
Now, let's consider the length of the trains:
Distance = L1 + L2
Distance = 130 m + 120 m = 250 m
Time = Distance / Relative speed
Time = 250 m / (100/36 m/s) = (250 × 36) / 100 s = 90 s
∴The two trains will pass each other in 90 seconds.
